We buy and sell steel around the world. In between, we are principals:
we own the steel
we arrange documentation that is customer-friendly
we finance the operation
we arrange a total logistics package.
The majority of our time is spent on servicing suppliers and customers.
Transportation and Logistics
Buying and selling steel is only part of our business. Moving steel from supplier to customer is a major part of what we do. We charter ocean vessels in our own name and collaborate closely with ports, stevedores and land transportation companies. We have logistics professionals around the world who attend the loading and offloading of vessels and oversee all aspects of the logistics flow. We invest heavily in our logistics efforts to ensure that the steel we buy moves seamlessly to its destination.
“We have been moving steel around the world for over 25 years. We know firsthand the problems which can occur and we are determined to do everything possible to anticipate potential problems and then work hard to ensure they do not arise”
ARIF has made a commitment to increase its presence in the international market by bringing more of its value-added, high-tensile and special products to customers on a recurring basis.
In addition to providing access to a major player in the worldwide steel industry, ARIF Steel also has privileged relationships with other major steel mills.
Our relationships with mills and third-party suppliers all serve just one purpose: to provide our customers with the steel they need when they need it.
Sourcing
We have purchased steel in all the major producing countries around the world.
We have been to the mills in often remote locations.
We have met the management and workers who make the steel.
We have tested the logistics to move the steel to port.
We have sold the steel and received customer feedback.
We know who we can rely on and who we cannot.
We know our steel!
“Our vast geographical presence ensures that we can react quickly to the dynamic shifts constantly experienced in the international steel market. We are not tied to a particular market or a particular trade flow. We survive by being quick and flexible and taking advantage of market shifts.”
COLD ROLLED
Cold rolling occurs with the metal below its recrystallisation temperature (usually at room temperature), which increases the strength via strain hardening up to 20%. It also improves the surface finish and holds tighter tolerances. Commonly cold-rolled products include sheets, strips, bars, and rods; these products are usually smaller than the same products that are hot rolled. Because of the smaller size of the workpieces and their greater strength, as compared to hot rolled stock, four-high or cluster mills are used.
GALVANIZED
Galvanisation, or galvanisation, is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel or iron, to prevent rusting. The most common method is hot-dip galvanisation, in which parts are submerged in a bath of molten zinc. Galvanising protects in two ways: it forms a coating of corrosion-resistant zinc which prevents corrosive substances from reaching the more delicate part of the metal the zinc serves as a sacrificial anode so that even if the coating is scratched, the exposed steel will still be protected by the remaining zinc.
GALVANNEALED
Galvanised or galvanneal is the result from the combined process of galvanising and annealing to produce specialised sheets of steel. The galvanisation is made through the hot-dipping (Hot-dip galvanising) process and an immediate in-line annealing and gives a very fine greyish matte finish. Galvanneal does not flake off its galvanised coating when formed, stamped, and bent. The very fine matte finish acts like a primer, allowing paint to adhere easily, and is very rust proof; only white to dark grey marks appear if it comes in contact with water. Galvanneal sheets offer good paintability, weldability, corrosion resistance, and formability. It is extensively used in the automotive, signage, electric equipment, and other industries requiring a metal with good paintability and long reliable service life. This steel process is produced by many steel mills and it is commonly referred by its trade name of Jet-Kote.
HOT ROLLED
Hot rolling is a metalworking process that occurs above the recrystallisation temperature of the material. After the grains deform during processing, they recrystallise, which maintains an equipped microstructure and prevents the metal from work hardening. The starting material is usually large pieces of metal, like semi-finished casting products, such as slabs, blooms, and billets. If these products came from a continuous casting operation the products are usually fed directly into the rolling mills at the proper temperature. In smaller operations the material starts at room temperature and must be heated. This is done in a gas- or oil-fired soaking pit for larger workpieces and for smaller workpieces induction heating is used. As the material is worked the temperature must be monitored to make sure it remains above the recrystallisation temperature. To maintain a safety factor a finishing temperature is defined above the recrystallisation temperature; this is usually 50 to 100 °C (90 to 180 °F) above the recrystallisation temperature. If the temperature does drop below this temperature the material must be re-heated before more hot rolling.[9]
HOT ROLLED PICKELED
hot rolled coil or sheet steel that has been descaled of oxide film by either a chemical method, mechanical method, or a combination of both and oiled to help retard corrosion during storage and after descaling. "HRPO" is available in various gauges, widths, and cut lengths or coil.
ALUMINIZED
Aluminised steel is steel that has been hot-dip coated on both sides with aluminium-silicon alloy. This process assures a tight metallurgical bond between the steel sheet and its aluminium coating, producing a material with a unique combination of properties possessed neither by steel nor by aluminium alone. Aluminised steel shows a better behaviour against corrosion[1] and keeps the properties of the base material steel for temperature lower than 800 °C (1,470 °F). For example, it is commonly used for heat exchangers in residential furnaces, commercial rooftop HVAC units, automotive mufflers, ovens, kitchen ranges, water heaters, fireplaces, barbecue burners, and baking pans. This steel is very useful for when heating something up because it heats up the substance faster than most other steels.
